📌 "I have never accepted any award in my life. But this award, given to me with love and affection by the local people of Howly, is more valuable than even a Nobel Prize." – Hrishikesh Goswami

Reflecting on the moment, Goswami shared:

“In the village of Khatalpara, on the banks of the Mora-Manah, the 34th Rongali Bihu Sammilani honoured me today with the Roja Chandi Narayan Baruah Award as part of their three-day celebration. This is the first public award of my life. Roja Chandi Baruah had his capital in Howly, and he displayed unmatched bravery in battles against the Man forces. Receiving an award named after such a valiant figure fills me with gratitude. My childhood, adolescence, and youth were all spent in my birthplace, Howly. This honour is only possible because of the love and blessings of the people of Howly. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the organising committee. This recognition has inspired me to continue serving the people with dedication.”

The award function was presided over by Sri Nagen Das, and graced by dignitaries including Bhawanipur MLA Sri Phani Talukdar, Krishi Bota recipient Sri Shailen Das, Sri Ananda Das, Sri Dhiraj Deori, Sri Anil Kalita, and Goswami’s elder brother Sri Narayan Goswami, among other respected guests.

The Roja Chandi Narayan Baruah Award commemorates one of Howly’s historical heroes—Roja Chandi Baruah, who ruled from Howly and stood as a fearless warrior against invading Man forces. By honouring contributors to Assamese culture and society, the award not only pays tribute to the past but also inspires present-day icons to carry the legacy forward.

The Khatalpara Rongali Bihu Sammilani continues to be a major cultural event, reaffirming the spirit of unity and heritage in lower Assam.
