The collective enthusiasm led to unanimous agreement on establishing an 'Ideal College' in response to the escalating demand for higher education in the Howly and Barpeta Road area.

 

Founding Steps

The first general public meeting on June 12, 1964, chaired by S.D.O. (Civil) Barpeta, Kamal Chandra Majumdar, marked a crucial milestone. The foundation was laid, driven by noble thoughts and untiring efforts, and B.H. College commenced its journey in 1966, initially offering the Arts faculty.

 

Evolution and Expansion

The institution's evolution mirrored the changing educational landscape. The addition of Commerce Stream in 1973, Science Stream (H.S.) in 1988, Science Stream (UG) in 1996, and post-graduation programs in Commerce, Assamese, and Education in subsequent years solidified B.H. College's standing as the sole three-faculty institution in Lower Assam under Gauhati University.

B.H. College earned UGC recognition in 1969, a significant endorsement of its academic prowess. The college achieved the distinction of B++ Accreditation by NAAC in 2003, underlining its commitment to quality education.
