A public meeting at Howly Chandi Barua Bhawan brought together people who believed that Howly and the Barpeta Road area needed an institution dedicated to higher education.
What began as a community-driven vision eventually developed into an institution with Arts, Commerce and Science education, along with postgraduate programmes.

The vision takes shape
In January 1964, the idea of establishing a college in Howly emerged through the initiative of Late Jadav Chandra Das. A public meeting at Howly Chandi Barua Bhawan set the foundation for the institution.
The first general public meeting
The first general public meeting was chaired by S.D.O. (Civil) Barpeta, Kamal Chandra Majumdar. The meeting marked a crucial step toward creating the proposed Ideal College.
B.H. College begins
B.H. College commenced its academic journey in 1966, initially offering the Arts faculty.
UGC recognition
The college received recognition from the University Grants Commission, marking an important milestone in its academic development.
Commerce Stream
Commerce was added to the institution's academic offerings, expanding opportunities for students.
Science Stream
The Science Stream at the Higher Secondary level was introduced, broadening the college's academic profile.
Undergraduate Science

NAAC B++ accreditation
B.H. College achieved B++ Accreditation by NAAC, reflecting its commitment to quality education.
